A Taurus' Pandemic Mutual Aid Recipe Exchange

It’s my birthday today (April 30th) and I thought I'd do a mutual aid/fundraiser zine exchange. Here's how to participate:
  1. Donate any amount to one of the fundraisers/organizations I've listed below.
  2. Email me the receipt at admin@janeshi.org by June 1st.
  3. Receive a zine in your in-box some time in June.

About the Zine: A lot of folks have asked me about a recipe for my dumplings. I was a little too ambitious and thought I could finish turning one into a zine by today. It will probably take me a month or so to finish, hence the extended June deadline. It will also include a recipe of the fried rice I've been making... stay tuned. :)

If you've already donated to one of these, consider contributing to one you haven't before!

Note to all friends and community who cannot afford to donate at this time:

Please tell me which fundraiser/organization you'd like to support and I'll donate $5-10 in your honour.

Mutual Aid Fundraisers:
  1. Fundraiser for women who live in the Vivian.
  2. Black People in B.C.
  3. Uyghur Refugees (deadline to donate May 23rd, 2020)
  4. Carnegie Community Action Project's Oppenheimer Park fundraiser
  5. Trans Women of Color Solidarity Network
Organizations (includes tax receipts):
  1. BWSS
  2. DEWC
  3. PACE's Sex Worker Relief Fund
  4. Saige Community Food Bank
  5. SWAN
  6. WAVAW
  7. WISH Drop-In
Questions? Concerns?
I am open to changes to this list or to add any that I haven't come across yet, though will be using my own discretion. Thank you!

Embracing Contradictions with HEX Metals & Minerals

I don't know about you but I follow Hex Metals & Minerals on Instagram. If you've ever wondered about the story behind HEX's sultry jewelry, here's your chance. Shortly before a photoshoot with poet Ivan Leonce, pictured above in photographs by Kayla Isomura, I sat down with HEX Metals & Minerals' Adrienne Yeung  to ask her about her one-person business. I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I have!

Thinking Bigger and Feeling at Home: An Interview with Wishcandy

Where did I see that before?

If you're looking at this month's Pride-themed cover of
Portland Mercury, you might be asking yourself this question. Even if you live north of the colonial border like me, you've likely stumbled upon Wishcandy's infectious artwork on the Internet. If you haven't, you're definitely in for a treat!

In April, I published excerpts from my interview with Sashiko Yuen, aka Wishcandy, in Together: A Zine on Asian & Black Intimacies on Turtle Island. In honour of Pride Month this June, I'm posting the full interview here. It was such a pleasure to learn from Sashiko and I hope to feature more amazing people on this site in the future.
